Clean & Simple Cards Using Magicals & Versamark

Hi - just dropping by to share 3 super clean and simple cards, all based on the one layout and all using the same products - though in different colours and with slightly different techniques.  Now I'm warning you all these are way more simple than my usual stuff and once you get started making these it's difficult to stop since they are so much darn fun!  All 3 cards use Versamark Watermark ink and Lindy's Stamp Gang products - Magicals and Starbursts to be exact.  I'm starting with the easiest of the 3 cards....

Card 1 - Blue Flower

Lindy's Stamp Gang Products
 Other Products:
  • Prima Flower:  Regency - White II
  • White Velvet Ribbon
  • Heidi Grace Epoxy Words: So Sweet
  • Spellbinders Corner Die: Fantastic Flourish Two
  • Kraft card stock
  • Black Eclipse 100 Cardstock
  • Versamark Watermark Stamp Pad
018 awm

This cards' background was created by inking a text stamp with the Versamark ink and stamping directly onto 1/2 the background.  I sprayed the flower with 2 colours of Starburst Spray and left it to dry overnight and I used the same colours of spray to colour the velvet ribbon - though a little trick, if you want to add the colour but no sparkle, flip the ribbon over and spray the back.  This works particularly well with thicker ribbon like velvet, then when dry flip it back over and you have colour but no shimmer.

016 a wm
The colours on the flower seem to glow!
016 a wm
I think the black really makes the colours pop.

Card 2 - Purple Flower

Lindy's Stamp Gang Products
Other Products:
  • Prima Flowers - Recency White I and Candy Gems (Melon)
  • Stamp: Hero Arts - Antique Background
  • Distress Stickles - Crushed Olive
  • Kraft card stock
  • Versamark Watermark Stamp Pad
039 a wm

This cards' background was created by inking a background stamp with the Versamark ink and stamping directly onto 1/2 the background, then while ink is still damp brush Magicals powder over the top, gently tap off any excess powder.  Spray flower with multiple colours of Starburst Spray and leave to dry. Ribbon then coloured with Magicals and Magicals added to flower in certain sections, in differing strengths to create multi-tonal effect.

031 a wm
Adding Magicals to the flower really made it special.
031 a wm
The Magicals are so crisp over the Versamark.

Card 3 - Red flower

Lindy's Stamp Gang Products
Other Products:
  • Prima Flower:  Regency - White II
  • Stamp: Hero Arts - Classic Fabric Design
  • White Ribbon
  • White Lace
  • Gala Glitz: Gold
  • Kraft card stock
  • Versamark Watermark Stamp Pad
024 awm

This cards' background was created by inking a background stamp with the Versamark ink and stamping directly onto 1/2 the background.  Then while ink is still damp brush Magicals powder over the top, gently tap off any excess powder and spritz lightly with water to create a slightly shabby aged appearance.  You will notice that the water activates the dye in the Magicals and this then bleeds onto the surrounding card - a little water = a little colour bleeding, a lot of water = a lot of colour bleeding.  Spray flower with multiple colours of Starburst Spray and leave to dry. Ribbon and lace coloured with same Starburst Sprays as flower, but due to the higher polyester content in the ribbon and lace, the colours are much more muted.

027 awm
Didn't these 2 colours go well together!
027 awm
You can see the soft edges on the spritzed Magical pattern.

Basically the formula is as follows:
  1. Stamp with Versamark = subtle
  2. The next step-up is to brush over Magicals = bling
  3. Then the next step-up is to spritz with water = shabby or vintage
So simple - but with just these small changes you will be able to get 3 very different effects.  I hope that you may have learned a new technique here today and don't forget you can use this idea for cards, pages or layouts - the only limit is your imagination!  And don't forget to check out the LSG YouTube channel tomorrow as I'll be posting a video clip showing you how I made these backgrounds.

May your day sparkle,
Kate

Mixed Media Doll Tag with Bona

Hi Everyone! Summer is one of my favorite seasons of the year. I just love all the bright colors and I wanted to share with you a large mixed media doll tag I created with the new Prima Doll Stamp. Riley is so adorable and I just love her pair of wings. I first adhered design paper from the Prima Ledger pad onto a 6" x 10" piece of light weight chipboard. I tore small pieces from one 6x6 deign paper from the Prima Sunny Days paper pad and place it onto the ledger sheet to create a collage background. I removed the caps from the Flat Fabio Spray Mango Mania, Summer Lovin' Sun, and Aloha Avocado to create a splatter effect throughout the tag. Then, I sprayed the Flat Fabio Caribbean Blue on the center of the tag. I cut two strips of Drywall Joint tape to give some texture to my tag. Its ones of my favorites to add when creating mixed media projects. Of course I had to add my number favorite which is Modeling Paste using the Prima Sunrise Sunset Stencil #960162 from the Finnabair collection. After creating my background, I added the Prima Doll Riley on the center as my main focal point. I paper pieced her outfit with some white lace and added a pair of wings which I added Frosted Lace Stickles for some texture. To finish off the tag, I placed some beautiful Prima flowers and wooden leaf venners that I sprayed with the Flat Fabio Aloha Avocado. IT so fun creating mixed media projects and I just love how all the Lindy's sprays coordinate so well with all my favorite paper collections.
Here's a list of the fun Flat Fabio Sprays I used on my tag. Aloha Avocado Caribbean Blue Mango Mania Summer Lovin' Sun

Here are presents!
and

First up is our designer Cynthialoowho with her Birthday Princess Crown!

These are so fun and easy to make.
I used some beautiful Venice lace. I mixed 2 parts school glue to 1 part water and dipped the lace in till it was completely saturated. I then went over the lace with a paint brush to clean out any spaces. I used my heat gun to dry. Once it was dry and kind of stiff I used Versamark and Angel Wings Mauve 2 toned embossing powder and heat set.

I then added embellishments and formed the crown.
Here are some others I made.

I colored the lace with Dark Chocolate Truffle Starburst, then I went over it with Versamark and Twilight Bronze Slate 2 toned embossing powder and heat set.

I hope you like my project and try it. There are so many possibilities with Lindy's Stamp Gang 2 toned embossing powders.
We are also having a sale all week!
20% off everything!!!

Next up is Jessica

In case you get lost along the way here is the blog hop list.

Create your own photo props with Jessica Griffin

One of my favorite hobbies is photography. I've recently started photographing newborns but found it's a very expensive hobby to keep up with, much like paper crafting! I really like incorporating a solid color into each photo, having Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays really helps me add variety to my bucket of props, with out costing me a fortune.

I started thinking about the several ways I can use my LSG products and remembered I have a bunch of Dritz Cheesecloth! I started by putting the Cheesecloth in a bowl of cold water, just to rinse it out, wash it off. Really, just to saturate it before adding the color. Once the cheesecloth is saturated, I added my choice of color to the bowl of cold water. Usually I determine the color I'm going to use, by matching it to the props I'll be using.

If I'm using a blanket, I'll put the colors on the blanket to see what matches best.

The green I choose matched the ornaments perfectly! I had originally picked the green based on the blanket, but, it looked so great with the ornaments, I couldn't pass the opportunity for a Christmas shot. Especially since this little guy IS a Christmas baby!

How do you use your Lindy's Stamp Gang products?

Thanks for stopping by!

Finishing Details with Jessica Griffin

I love to color, and it's really easy to incorporate my Lindy's Stamp Gang products into everything I color. The finishing details really complete the project bring everything together!

I used Lindy’s Stamp Gang Yellow Rose of Texas to color the felt star, and the stars in the image. I only buy white felt, and I use my LSG products to make the felt, the exact color I want.

I used Cotton Candy Pink Starburst Stain to add some shimmer to the banner that says: "birthday wishes".

I used Lindy’s Stamp Gang’s magicals in Hottie Patottie Hot Pink to add color to the leotard and ballet slippers

This is an older card, but one that shows how the small details really make a huge difference. Lindy's Stamp Gang products are really a great alternative to adding glitter. When I give my kids a card, covered in LSG products, I NEVER worry that they'll touch the finished piece and then put their hands on their face, resulting in glitter in their eyes. You can see the details for the card below on my blog

I'll be back on the 10th! I hope everyone has a great Easter!

Rainbow Card using Color Shots

Hi to all the Lindy's Stamp Gang blog followers out there, today I have a quick, fun and funky rainbow colored card using Color Shots to share with you all.

What I used:

  • Lindy's Stamp Gang Color Shots: Bells of Ireland Green, Magnolia Magenta Gold, Hottie Patottie Hot Pink, Bachelor Button Blue, Witch's Potion Purple, Rhododendron Rose Red and Marigold Yellow Orange.
  • Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst Spray on leaf - Bells of Ireland Green
  • Lindy's Stamp Gang Glitz Spritz on flower - Royal Amethyst Fire
  • Pink Paislee Resist Cardstock - 12 x 12 Mistables
  • Prima Leaf,  Say it in Crystals (Black corner embellishments cut from border edging)
  • Magnolia flower (large) and black bead spray
  • Flower coloured with Copic Markers and Glitz Spritz - Royal Amethyst Fire
  • Black Opulence Ribbon
  • Eclipse Black 100 Card
  • Stickles - Stardust

What I did:

Cut resist card to size and choose a rainbow of Color Shots.  My shots have been pre-mixed with water.  You could also create monotone cards (eg: all different blues) which also look amazing!
Uvs130317-001a
Using a small spoon or pop stick, spoon a small amount of each color onto top edge of card, making sure each color touches the one next to it like this... Uvs130317-002a
Uvs130317-004a
Gently tilt the card to allow colors to run.
Uvs130317-005a
Add more color if needed.  If you prefer to leave this looking drippy, stop at this step and leave the colors to dry.
Uvs130317-006a
Spritz card with water to make colors wick and bleed.
Uvs130317-008a
Once again - tilt card so that colors run, the excess will run off - I use this excess color on tags or pages so I don't waste it..
Uvs130317-010a
Use a paper towel to wipe excess color from the resist design (use can remove any stubborn color with a baby wipe).  Wipe from top to bottom (in line with colors not across) and change paper towel after each wipe so as not to contaminate the colors. Uvs130317-012a
Leave flat to dry (this won't take long).
Uvs130317-018

Now you could use this as the base for an image, die cut it, use as journal background, but I thought this was so pretty I didn't really want to cover it up!   In an effort to show off my background, I added some black card, ribbon and embellishments to contrast with all those colors, plus a flower I had previously colored and this is the result.....

May your day have a little Lindy's sparkle,
