For Christmas a few months ago, my mother in law came to visit. I wanted to give her something, but, nothing to big, and nothing that could break in her travels. (She flew in from Canada.) I thought about it for a few days and thought there had to be a way we could make one thing, but all have a part of it. That's when I saw a picture of a Reindeer. Instantly my wheels started turning...
I went to my collection of LSG products and found a bottle I hadn't yet filled,
Sandra Dee Sepia. Here's the step by step photo tutorial, with written instruction.
Step 1. Put powder in a bowl.
Step 2. Mix in a small amount of water, it activates the color. (At least I think it does anyways!)
Step 3. Add PPA, Perfect Paper Adhesive. It's available at your local craft store, Michael's I believe. It's in the adhesive section, likely on the bottom shelf. It's a yellow bottle- don't forget your coupon, this stuff is pricey, but amazing. I used PPA Matte. I mixed in enough PPA to coat each of my kids hands/feet.
*When you're done mixing it all up, it may have a slightly blue tint, but don't worry- it won't be there when you put it on fabric.
Step 4. Apply the paint mixture to your child's foot and have them step straight down onto the shirt. Apply a little pressure to the top of their foot ensuring the paint transfers evenly.
Step 5. Follow the same instructions in step four, this time using a left and right hand. *One thing I wish I had done is overlap the thumbs bringing the hands closer together.
Step 6. Add your nose and eyes. For the white paint, I used Gesso. For the black part of the eyes I used a permanent marker and for the red nose I used
Rizzo's Rowdy Red. My husband used his thumb to create the nose, and I used my index finger to create the eyes. Googly eyes would have been fun!
My kids really enjoyed creating this shirt! After applying the paint mixture to each of their hands or foot, I was able to wash it right off with soap and warm water. Taking the time to wash them off allowed time for the shirt to dry between stamping- I did allow the shirt to dry overnight before adding the eyes/nose.
I hope you'll try making fabric paint with your Lindy's Stamp Gang products. We had a ton of fun creating this shirt, and I can't wait to use this technique again!
